The Borneo short-tailed python (Python breitensteini) is a heavy-bodied snake relative to its length. Adult females generally measure 32” to 50” in total length (although older females can grow to 60“), and adult males generally measure 24” to 40” in total length. Larger specimens can weigh as much as 30 pounds. These pythons are found throughout most of the lower elevations of the island of Borneo. They frequent slow rivers, irrigated farming areas, poorly-drained flood plains, and the forested hills that surround these areas. They have considerable variation in both color and pattern, although they are typically colored in combinations of brown, black, white, gold and yellow. With proper care, these snakes can become very docile, gentle and trusting snakes that thrive in captivity.
We've been working with our two VPI-line adults since 2001. They've produced some outstanding offspring (striping, reduced patterning, granite sides, etc.) and these two adults are two of the most gentle snakes we've ever worked with. We are holding back several babies from prior clutches to see what they look like as they get older and to incorporate into our breeding program.
