Emerald Tree Boas

This species of tree boa (Corallus caninus) is native to the dense subtropical rainforests of northern and central South America. Although their range is large, the areas they inhabit are geographicaly very similar - equatorial rainforest. They are strongly arboreal, though they do occasionally descend to the ground. Babies are born green, brick red, orange, yellow or a combination of those colors, but by the time they are 12 to 24 months old will have turned to the adult color of "emerald" green, with the surface of the belly being gold or yellow. Individuals from different localities are prized for the addition of varous markings - a white dorsal stripe, white diamonds, white zigzags, white spots, black pigmentation, etc. Emerald tree boas are some of the most beautiful snakes in the world and are generally considered to be display animals, not handling animals.

Our breeding pair have been with us for a relatively short time and we've fallen in love with them. Both adults are docile and colored in intense greens with white dorsal diamonds and yellow bellies. Both of these animals are stunning examples of what emerald tree boas can look like.
