The Sumatran short-tailed python (Python curtus) is a heavy-bodied snake relative to its length. Adults average 40” to 50” in total length, with females being significantly larger than males. These pythons are found throughout most of western and southern Sumatra where they frequent slow rivers, irrigated farming areas, poorly drained flood plains and the forested hills that surround these areas. They have considerable variation in both color and pattern - babies are typically colored in combinations of brown, black, yellow and white or cream. As they mature, they darken and can become almost totally black with little visible pattern, The coloration of the head can be tan, silver/chrome, red or black. With proper care, these snakes can become very docile, gentle and trusting snakes that thrive in captivity.
We've got two very dark adults. The male has a black head and the female has a chrome head. Both animals have great dispositions and are gentle and deliberate snakes that are two of our favorites.
